|Item 9202||Henri II Display Cabinet|
|Dimensions||Width 50, Height 93, Depth 24˝ (in inches)|
|Wood||Solid walnut (no veneers)|
This antique cabinet, made from solid French walnut, dates from the 19th century and displays stylistic features commonly referred to as Henri II. These include the columns on either side, the rosettes centered on the bottom drawer and on the top piece, creating a pleasing balance and symmetry grounded in Renaissance motifs. The drawer locks and comes with its original key. The intricately carved scroll-shaped capitals of the columns are particularly distinctive. In order to enhance the visibility of items displayed in the cabinet, a light colored, removable panel has been added along with glass shelving.
Gairaud, Yves, Le Guidargus du Meuble Régional (Les Editions de l’Amateur, Paris, 1990)
The display cabinet would work well in a foyer or hallway, or to blend with other furniture in a living room or library.
